Best Tyre Brands in India (2026)

Ten car tyre brands sold in India, compared on what has been measured: independent test results for the patterns sold here, warranty terms, range and street prices checked in November 2026.

Which is the best car tyre brand in India in 2026?

For most car owners, Michelin is the best choice, provided the price fits your budget. Among the patterns Michelin sells in India, the Primacy 4 and Pilot Sport 4 SUV have finished at or near the top of European group tests, and its warranty runs from the day you buy, where Apollo, Continental and MRF count from the day the tyre was made. Continental and Bridgestone come next. Of the Indian brands, Apollo and CEAT have the most published data, although some of it is unflattering.

There is no single winner. A Wagon R on 155/80 R13 and a Fortuner on 265/60 R18 are shopping in different markets, and some premium brands barely sell in the smaller sizes.

The table puts all ten brands side by side. The price column uses one common size, 205/55 R16, found on the Hyundai Verna HX10 Turbo and the Kia Carens Clavis HTE CNG, so the figures can be compared directly.

How this ranking was put together

This ranking draws on four kinds of evidence. Each section labels which kind a given fact is.

  • Independent tests. These are group tests by ADAC, Auto Bild and Auto Express in Europe, plus single-tyre reviews in Indian magazines. A European result is used only when the same pattern name is sold in India. India-specific variants are not credited with results from their European namesakes: the Bridgestone Turanza 6i is not the Turanza 6, and Continental's India UltraContact UC6 is not the European UltraContact.
  • Tests a tyre maker paid for. These are labelled "commissioned". The tyre maker chose the rivals and the conditions.
  • Brand claims. Claims such as "+39% tyre life" are quoted as the brand's own words and treated as marketing.
  • Prices. Listings on tyremarket.com and tyreplex.com, checked in November 2026.

The order is our editorial judgement from that evidence, weighted towards measured results for tyres you can actually buy here. Treat the gap between 2nd and 4th as narrow. A different weighting, say price above wet braking, would reasonably reorder the middle of the list.

1. Michelin: the strongest test record in India's range

Michelin lists 13 car and SUV lines on michelin.in. They run from the Energy XM2+ economy tyre, at a recommended price from ₹9,000, to the Pilot Sport 4, from ₹25,000. Those are list prices, not street prices. Four lines, the LTX Trail ST, Pilot Sport 4 SUV, Pilot Sport 5 and Primacy 5, are being made at its Chennai plant in 16 to 22 inch sizes, according to Autocar India. Michelin India's MD told the magazine that the focus is SUVs and big cars running tyres above 16 inches, which fits with the locally made range starting at 16 inches and leaves 13 to 15 inch hatchback owners on imported sizes for now.

What the independent tests say

The record is good, but not uniformly so.

  • Primacy 4. 2nd of 18 in ADAC's 2022 test at 215/60 R16, with the best dry and fuel sub-grades of the top five. 3rd of 16 at 185/65 R15. 2nd of 10 in Auto Bild's 215/60 R17 test, the Creta and Seltos size. The Primacy 4 is listed on michelin.in from ₹14,100.
  • Pilot Sport 4 SUV. 1st of 12 in Auto Bild's 2023 SUV test, stopping from 100 km/h in the wet in 49.9 m. The other tyres in the top five needed 52.1–53.0 m.
  • Primacy 5. 7th of 16 in ADAC 2026, with an overall 2.8. Its driving-safety grade of 3.2 held it back, though its environment grade of 1.8 was the second best of the sixteen. In Auto Express's 2026 test it placed 6th of 8 and came last in dry handling, but had the lowest rolling resistance in the group.

The Michelin results most often quoted online, the Primacy 4+ topping Auto Bild 2024, belong to a tyre that has no product page on michelin.in. They are not evidence for anything you can buy here.

Michelin's own India test

Michelin commissioned Applus+ IDIADA to test the Primacy 5 at NATRAX, Indore, in May–June 2026, using size 205/65 R16 on a Hyundai Creta against three tyres sold in India: the Bridgestone Turanza 6i, the Continental UltraContact UC6 and the Yokohama BluEarth-GT AE51. Michelin reports wet braking of 30.5 m against a 38.6 m rival average, and 37.6 m against 46.5 m with tyres worn to 2 mm (Primacy 5 page footnote). The rivals are India-market tyres, which makes the test more relevant than most. It is still a test Michelin paid for.

Is Michelin worth the extra money in India?

At 205/55 R16 the Primacy 4 ST lists at ₹11,040 on tyremarket.com, about ₹4,000 more than a CEAT SecuraDrive in the same size. That money buys a podium history. Michelin's warranty also covers defects for 5 years from the date of purchase, so a tyre that sat in a dealer's warehouse for a year before it reached your car has not quietly lost a year of cover, as it would under a warranty counted from manufacture. Road hazards such as cuts, punctures and impacts are excluded, per its FAQ.

2. Bridgestone: broad range, India-specific Turanza

Bridgestone India sells eight families, per its passenger-tyre page: Turanza, Ecopia, Potenza, MY02, Alenza, Dueler, Sturdo and the B-series. The current touring line is the Turanza 6i. Bridgestone says it covers "SUVs, CUVs, Sedans and Hatchbacks" in 36 sizes from 14 to 20 inches (Turanza page).

On paper, Bridgestone's European results are strong. The Turanza T005 placed 3rd at 215/60 R16 and 2nd at 185/65 R15 in ADAC's 2022 tests, the latter with a wet sub-grade of 1.7. The European Turanza 6 placed 3rd in Auto Bild 2024 and 6th in ADAC 2026. Neither the T005 nor the Turanza 6 is confirmed on sale in India, though, and since the 6i is a different tyre, those results show what Bridgestone's engineers can build without telling you anything direct about the tyre a dealer here will fit.

Retailers still list the older Turanza T001, which at 215/65 R16 is ₹9,999 on tyremarket.com. For SUVs, the Ecopia EP850 is ₹11,660 at 225/65 R17, about ₹570 under the Michelin Primacy SUV+ in the same size and about ₹3,000 above the CEAT SportDrive SUV, which leaves it as the middle of the three on price in that size. The Sturdo line carries the claim "up to 29% longer tyre life", with no baseline stated (Sturdo page). Its warranty page did not load.

3. Continental: top results, narrow India sizing

Continental has the best single result for a pattern sold in India: the PremiumContact 6 was 1st of 18 in ADAC's 215/60 R16 test. It was also 2nd of 50 in ADAC's 2023 205/55 R16 test, with the best driving-safety grade in the top three. The catch is size. Autocar Professional reports that the PremiumContact 6 launched in India in 17 to 20 inch rims, so both of those 16-inch test sizes, the ones that fit a Nexon, Brezza or Verna turbo, are absent from its India range.

For everyday cars, Continental's India line is the UltraContact UC6, an India-specific tyre (product page). The European UltraContact that ADAC placed 7th in 2023 is not sold here, and neither is the PremiumContact 7 that won ADAC's 2026 test, so a Continental test headline from Europe may describe a tyre an Indian dealer cannot order. Check the name. Continental's India sitemap also lists the ComfortContact CC6, EcoContact 7 S and five CrossContact SUV lines.

Continental's India warranty is 5 years from the week of production. Our November price check did not capture any Continental listings, so no street price is quoted.

4. Goodyear: wet-braking focus, strong performance tyre

Goodyear India sells 13 car and SUV lines across its passenger, SUV and performance pages. The Assurance TripleMax 2 is pitched as "Stop Faster, Drive Safer". Its Assurance MaxGuard carries badges reading "5-Star Fuel Efficiency" and "+39% Tyre Life", which are Goodyear's own claims, and the listing does not say whether the stars are a BEE rating or a scale of Goodyear's own. Read them as marketing.

The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6, sold in India, scored 1.9 in ADAC's 2025 225/40 R18 test, level with Michelin's Pilot Sport 5 and just behind the winner's 1.8 (auto motor und sport summary). Goodyear's best-known European touring tyre, the EfficientGrip Performance 2, topped ADAC's 2023 205/55 R16 test and its 2022 185/65 R15 test, but we did not see it on goodyear.co.in.

Prices for the TripleMax run from ₹5,475 at 205/65 R16 to ₹10,495 at 215/60 R17 on tyremarket.com. Goodyear's India warranty page returned an error.

5. Yokohama: locally made BluEarth, thin data

Yokohama's India site lists five families: Advan, BluEarth, Earth-1 Max, Geolandar and S.drive. Its product pages would not render for us, so the pattern names in this section come from a retailer's catalogue, and some of what that retailer lists may be old stock rather than Yokohama's current India range. The BluEarth-GT AE51 is made at Bahadurgarh, Haryana, and evo India reported 26 sizes from 14 to 17 inches. That review gave impressions only.

We found no independent group test of an India Yokohama pattern. The AE51 appears only as one of the rivals in Michelin's commissioned NATRAX test.

On price, Yokohama sits between the Indian brands and Michelin. The Earth-1 E400 is ₹8,482 at 215/60 R16 and the Geolandar A/T G015 is ₹13,510 at 235/65 R17 on tyreplex.com.

6. Pirelli: premium and SUV, mid-table in tests

Pirelli's India catalogue shows 14 car and SUV products. They range from the Cinturato P1 ("Ideal for urban mobility") and the Cinturato P7 to the P ZERO performance family and five Scorpion SUV lines.

In the tests, the Cinturato P7 C2 was 17th of 50 in ADAC 2023 and "gut" (6th equal) in Auto Bild's 2023 SUV test. The Cinturato P7 was 15th in Auto Bild's 2024 205/55 R16 test. The Pirelli that did best in recent tests, the Cinturato C3, is not in the India catalogue.

Pirelli is the most expensive brand in most sizes we checked. The P7 Cinturato is ₹13,740 at 205/55 R16 and the Scorpion Verde is ₹26,785 at 235/60 R18. Retailers also list a Cinturato P6, which is not in Pirelli's India catalogue.

7. Apollo: the Indian brand with the most test exposure

Apollo's India car page features the Aspire 5, Alnac 4G and Amazer XL, with the Amazer 4G Life and the Apterra SUV range in the body text. Apollo also owns Vredestein, a European brand whose Ultrac appears in several ADAC tests.

The Alnac 4G was 27th of 50 in ADAC's 2023 205/55 R16 test, with a grade of 3.2 ("befriedigend"). That is mid-pack: ahead of the Michelin e.Primacy in 38th, and well behind the premium tyres at the top. Whether the European and India Alnac 4G share a construction is unverified.

The Alnac 4G costs ₹7,999 at 205/55 R16 and ₹6,912 at 215/60 R17. Apollo's warranty is 5 years from the week of manufacture, pro-rata on tread. Its own tread guide recommends replacing tyres at 2.3 mm rather than waiting for the legal 1.6 mm (Apollo).

8. MRF: India's longest stated warranty, no test data

MRF's passenger-car page lists the Perfinza CLX1 and CLY1 (which MRF labels "Luxury"), the ZLO and ZWYDE ("Performance"), and the Wanderer A/T and S/L for SUVs. The ZLX, which many hatchback owners know, has a live MRF product page and is widely sold at retail.

We found no independent test of any MRF car tyre. That does not show the tyres are poor. It does mean every comparison of MRF with the premium brands, including ones you will read elsewhere, rests on reputation rather than measurement.

MRF's car-tyre warranty runs 6 years from the month of manufacture, pro-rata, the longest term among the policies we read. On price, the ZLX is ₹6,514 at 185/65 R15 and the Wanderer A/T is ₹9,009 at 245/75 R16, the Thar AXT size.

9. CEAT: 5-star BEE ratings, a weak European result

CEAT's car range is SportDrive, SecuraDrive, Calm SportDrive, CrossDrive AT, EnergyDrive EV and Milaze X3/X5. SportDrive, SecuraDrive and CrossDrive received 5-star BEE ratings for rolling resistance in 2022.

The SecuraDrive has two published results, and they point in different directions. Auto Bild eliminated it in qualifying for its 2024 205/55 R16 test under the heading "braking distances too long", at 33.3 m wet and 40.6 m dry. In 2020, evo India measured it at 43.89 m from 100 km/h on a Kia Sonet, against 48.16 m for the car's unnamed original tyres, which makes it a single-tyre review rather than a group test. It is a mixed record.

CEAT is often among the cheapest of the named brands: the SecuraDrive is ₹5,919 at 215/60 R16 and the Milaze X3 is ₹5,337 at 185/65 R15, the lowest of the ten major brands on tyremarket.com in the size the Swift ZXi and Baleno Delta use. We could not confirm CEAT's warranty term. Its page offers a six-month extension if you register online.

10. JK Tyre: low prices, puncture-guard variants

JK Tyre's car range includes the Levitas Ultra, UX Royale, UX Touring, Ultima and Taximax, plus Ranger SUV patterns from H/T to M/T. Several patterns come in "Puncture Guard" or "Smart Tyre" versions. We read that only from the names, and it is unconfirmed what each adds.

No independent test of a JK car tyre was found. Its prices are among the lowest of the ten brands: the UX Royale is ₹5,978 at 215/55 R17 on tyremarket.com, and the Ranger H/T is ₹12,637 at 265/60 R18 on tyreplex.com, the Fortuner 4x4 size. JK's warranty, read on its international site, is 5 years from manufacture or invoice, or until the tread reaches the wear indicator.

How do tyre brands compare in independent tests?

The table lists every result we found for a pattern name sold in India. ADAC grades use the German school scale, so a lower number is better.

Which tyre brand gives the best value for money in India?

The answer depends on how much a shorter wet stop is worth to you, because that is what the price gap mostly buys. This table shows listing prices for one size, 205/55 R16, checked on 6 November 2026.

Brand and patternPrice per tyreSellerSet of four
JK Tyre UX Royale₹6,808tyreplex.com₹27,232

Pirelli P7 Cinturato₹13,740tyremarket.com₹54,960

Set prices are the single price multiplied by four, before fitting, alignment or balancing. Prices change week to week, and a dealer may quote differently.

If you drive a Verna to an office in Bengaluru and rarely leave the city, an Indian brand at ₹27,000–32,000 a set is a defensible choice. If the same car does a monthly run to Mysuru in the rain, the premium brands' better-documented wet results are where the extra ₹12,000–17,000 goes. Our car tyre price guide has prices across more sizes.

Which car tyre brand lasts the longest in India?

No independent test has measured tread life on Indian roads, so nobody can rank the brands on it honestly. The closest data is ADAC's wear sub-grade, measured in Europe on European roads: in its 215/60 R16 test, the Michelin Primacy 4 scored 1.5 for wear against 2.0 for the winning Continental, a gap that suggests longer life without telling you how many kilometres either would last here. In the 185/65 R15 test, Goodyear's EfficientGrip Performance 2 scored 1.0, and that tyre is not on goodyear.co.in.

Everything else is a brand claim or commissioned. Michelin says a commissioned CATARC test found 25% more mileage for the Energy XM2+ than its rivals, extrapolated from 20,000 km (Energy XM2+ page). Goodyear's "+39% Tyre Life" and Bridgestone's "up to 29% longer" give no baseline.

Tyre brands in India: frequently asked questions

Which is the No. 1 tyre brand in India?
On measured performance of patterns sold in India, Michelin has the strongest record, with Continental close behind in 17-inch and larger sizes. If you mean the biggest seller, we have no sourced market-share figures to quote.
Is Michelin better than MRF?
In tests, Michelin has the evidence and MRF has none: MRF car tyres do not appear in any independent group test we found. MRF does offer the longer warranty term, 6 years from manufacture against Michelin's 5 years from purchase. Michelin also costs more in every size where we found both.
Which Indian tyre brand is best?
Apollo has the most published test exposure, with the Alnac 4G placing 27th of 50 in ADAC 2023. CEAT has 5-star BEE ratings on three lines but a poor Auto Bild qualifying result. MRF and JK Tyre have no independent test data, so a ranking between them would be guesswork.
Which tyre brand offers an unconditional warranty in India?
None of the car-tyre warranties we read is unconditional. Michelin, MRF, Apollo, Continental and JK Tyre all cover manufacturing defects only and settle pro-rata on remaining tread, and Michelin explicitly excludes cuts, punctures and impact damage.
Are expensive tyre brands worth it on Indian roads?
For wet braking, the evidence favours them: premium patterns fill the top of every European test where Indian brands also appear. For tread life on Indian roads, there is no independent evidence either way. Whether a premium of ₹3,000–4,200 a tyre at 205/55 R16 is worth it depends on how much highway and monsoon driving you do.
Is the Michelin Primacy 5 the best Michelin tyre?
It is the newest, not the best tested. It placed 7th of 16 in ADAC 2026 and 6th of 8 in Auto Express 2026, though it had the lowest rolling resistance in the Auto Express test. Michelin's commissioned India test at NATRAX shows it ahead of three India-market rivals in wet braking.
Which tyre brand is best for SUVs in India?
The best independent SUV result for a pattern sold here is the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV, 1st of 12 in Auto Bild's 2023 225/65 R17 test. For off-road use, no independent test of an India A/T tyre was found. See our [best car tyres guide](/best-car-tyres-india) for SUV models compared by price.
Do all tyre brands in India meet the same safety standard?
Yes, at the legal minimum. Every new car tyre must carry the ISI mark and, since January 2024, pass AIS-142 wet-grip and rolling-resistance limits. Brands differ in how far above that minimum they test.
